bijin means many things to many people. You will hear terms like eclectic, relaxing, sophisticated, upscale and friendly. Quite literally, bijin means "great beauty" in Japanese. Our company philosophy borrows from the traditional and the modern to create a unique blend and an ever-changing, fluid environment. Since 1988, bijin has grown into the premiere salon and spa in the Kansas City metro area, with over 20 stylists and over 70 total employees. Of course, there’s always room for one more. Salon Apprentice Program
If you are a licensed hair stylist seeking to further your education in an inspirational setting, bijin welcomes you. Our Apprenticeship Program sets us apart from other salons. While working and earning income, you will continue to learn and hone your craft alongside some of the best stylists in the industry.
How It Works:
Timeframe: 12-18 months
Full time at 40 hours
We require specific criteria and you ultimately determine the time necessary to complete the program based on attendance, skill sets and completing required test out models.
Schedule: Monday 9 am-11 am
Education with Master Stylist or Field Specialist.Topics include: Effective Consultation, Chair Side Manner, Dimensional Color and Advanced Formulation, Advanced Finishing, Product Knowledge, Retail Sales, Pre-Booking, Professional Industry Standards and State Board Requirements.
Monday 12:15 pm-6 pm
Scheduled Client Appointments in a supervised and structured setting
Tuesday-Saturday:
Assist bijin Master and Senior Stylists
General Salon Maintenance
A few months into the program and after meeting certain criteria you will have the opportunity to schedule clients on Saturdays in addition to Mondays.

Upon completion of the Program, you will graduate to studio b, a bistro salon within bijin. studio b allows you to further develop as a stylist. It offers alternative pricing in an environment that is equal to bijin’s reputation.
Periodically Monday advanced classes will be held in studio b and are required as part of your advancement. Upon reaching bijin standards you are then promoted to the next level. At this stage we celebrate your promotion with a themed fashion show, of your creation. A fun event we call your Soiree'!
